Guest Speaker ..... Shirley McArthur
Our first speaker will be Shirley A. McArthur, whose son Neal E. "Jay"
McArthur Jr., was killed on August 23, 1998.
Jay was in his second year of college at Savannah State University,
Savannah, Ga. He was driving his car to the video store with a friend
of his when another car drove by his car and shot one time through the
driver's side. He was shot in the head by someone who was a complete
stranger to Jay and to his friend.
Jay, born August 9, 1978, was Shirley's only son and the oldest of her
three children.
Shirley, who is a registered nurse practitioner, will talk about moving
forward even when you feel like you are standing still. She says,
"My analogy will be the slow moving sidewalk seen at the airport that moves
you from one terminal to the next and is appropriately 1-1.5 miles long.
It's moving but you feel like it's standing still, such as life when you
are stricken with grief, pain and hurt for your child." But, just
like the sidewalk "is" moving, so are you.

Sibling Guest Speaker .... Amy Patton
Our sibling speaker is Amy Patton. Amy lost her only sibling on
September 4, 2000. Her brother, Michael Justin Cornelison, was 21
years old when he died in a car accident.
Amy is a realtor and lives with her husband and two children in Sharpsburg,
Ga.
Amy wants to speak to parents (on behalf of TCF siblings) about why
siblings sometimes have trouble talking with their parents about their
loss. And, she'd like to offer some suggestions about how siblings
and parents can help each other through the approaching holiday season.

Centerpieces will be designed by Carol Hawley. We are planning
a workshop sometime in October/November to create the centerpieces.
As soon as a day is set, we will let everyone know. We hope everyone
who is interested will join us in creating the beautiful centerpieces with
Carol's help. We will furnish all the supplies ..... we just need
your help......
